Recently I attended the Better Business Bureau of Acadiana’s Awards Banquet. The keynote speaker was Steve Cox, the National President/CEO of Better Business Bureaus. He spoke very eloquently about trust in the marketplace and highlighted character and confidence as hallmarks of trust. I thought he could have been talking about Girl Scouts! All he needed was to add courage and he would have been reciting our mission.
Then, the BBB did talk about Girl Scouts! Girl Scouts of Louisiana – Pines to the Gulf was awarded the Small Business Good Neighbor Award. The award recognized the significant role Girl Scouts plays in the mission of local charities that support programs, services, donations, in-kind, etc. in our community. Who would have thought a charity would have been recognized for supporting other charities? Of course Girl Scouts would! As a council we collaborate with other not-for-profits to ensure girls can benefit from the Girl Scout Leadership Experience. And, best of all Girl Scouts throughout the council are embracing take action projects in the form of community service. I was proud to accept the award on behalf of all of us. Girl Scouts truly make the world a better place!
